Once a sleepy fishing village, it has grown into an international surf destination without losing much of its relaxed, low-key character, with a single main road lined with surf shops, cafes, and guesthouses running behind the beach. Its surf season runs opposite the island's west and south coasts, drawing surfers from around the world between April and October when the swell and offshore winds line up.
