Airport / Negombo
Greeted by our representative at Colombo Airport and depart for Negombo, a small fishing town near the airport known for its traditional catamarans, a Dutch-era fort and canal from the late 16th century. Overnight stay at Negombo.

Negombo / Anuradapura
After breakfast proceed to Anuradapura. Anuradapura Historical Site: the island's ruling capital for 1,000 years, still used for religious purposes, with giant dagobas, lofty pillars, ancient rock pools and museums; open roughly 7.00-18.00, allow 2.5 hours. Overnight stay at Anuradapura.

Anuradapura / Polonnaruwa / Dambulla
After breakfast proceed to Polonnaruwa, then return to Dambulla. Polonnaruwa: a World Heritage Site of Buddha statues, palace complexes and Hindu sculptures shaped by Indian influence, fed by the Parakrama Samudra; flat terrain, about 2.5 hours. Overnight stay at Dambulla.

Dambulla / Sigiriya
Breakfast then depart for Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Sigiriya: a 200m rock fortress with a royal palace at its summit, 1,200 steps, fifth-century frescoes and the mirror wall graffiti. Dambulla Golden Cave Temples: a moderate 2-hour climb to a 30m Buddha statue in the Dhamma Chakka posture across five 1st-century-BC cave shrines. Overnight stay at Dambulla.

Dambulla / Avukana / Kandy
Breakfast then depart for Kandy via Matale. Avukana Buddha: a 12-metre standing Buddha on a lotus pedestal, said to date from the era of King Dhatusena in the 5th century; the name means 'Sun-Eating' Buddha, shown in the Ashiwa Mudra blessing posture. Kandy Tooth Temple: home to the sacred left canine relic of the Buddha, an easy 2-hour visit. Folk Show: an hour of 12 traditional dances and a fire-walking ceremony. Overnight stay at Kandy.

Bahiravakanda Buddha Statue: a giant white Buddha overlooking the Kandyan kingdom, tied to local legend of a Bahirava temple once on the site. Lankathilaka Temple: a 14th-century architectural landmark set among lush greenery, notable for its distinctive construction. Gadaladeniya Temple: built by King Bhuvanekabahu IV in the 13th century, showing South Indian architectural influence. Embekke Devalaya: renowned for intricately carved wooden pillars, dedicated to God Kataragama and built by King Wickramabahu II in the 13th century, originally a three-storey structure. Overnight stay at Kandy.

Kandy / Nuwara Eliya
Breakfast then depart for Nuwara Eliya, passing scenic landscapes, waterfalls and a working tea factory and estate. City tour: Golf Course, Race Course, Gregory Lake and Victoria Park as preferred. Seetha Amman Temple: the world's only Seetha temple, at the spot legend holds Seetha was held captive by Ravana. Hakgala Botanical Gardens: established 1861, originally for cinchona cultivation, later transformed into ornamental gardens known for orchids and roses. Overnight stay at Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya / Tissamaharama
Early morning visit to Horton Plains National Park. A 5am jeep transfer precedes a 3-hour, 9.5km trek past World's End (Small and Big), Baker's Falls and Chimney Pool. Depart for Yala, with an optional stop in Ella. Overnight stay at Yala.

Early morning Full Day Game Safari at Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka's foremost parks, known for leopards, elephants, sloth bear, wild water buffalo and crocodiles; roam the park for 10-12 hours with lunch inside. Depart for the Kataragama historical site. Overnight stay at Yala.

After breakfast depart for Galle. Stilt Fishermen: between Weligama and Unawatuna, a distinctive local fishing technique performed from stilts in shallow water. Galle Fort: built in the 17th century, one of the best-preserved forts in South Asia, with colonial villas, the Dutch Reformed Church, a museum and the Clock Tower. Overnight stay at Galle.

Galle / Bentota
Breakfast then depart for Bentota. Moonstone Mines: near Ambalangoda in Meetiyagoda, the country's only concentrated moonstone deposit. Ambalangoda Mask Museum: traditional hand-carved masks tracing centuries of craft and cultural significance. Island Hopping on the Madu River: a lagoon of hundreds of islets, with an old Buddhist monastery and local cinnamon cultivation and prawn fishing. Turtle Hatchery: begun in 1988, incubating purchased turtle eggs before releasing hatchlings to the sea at night. Overnight stay at Bentota.
